And changing our own minds is the most difficult place to start.
Your body and mind crave easy routines. We naturally gravitate towards our safe zones. But your growth depends on discomfort. It pays to explore new routines, paths, ideas, disciplines and new ways to be better at what you do.
Fear is the body’s own way of protecting itself. But you can get past it and you will be used to the new normal. In the real world, you don’t get anything by wishing it, and you can’t get a reaction without action. When you play it too safe, you’re taking the biggest risk of your life.
Never miss an opportunity to show up. To participate. To make a move. To share yourself. Give yourself time in your life to wonder what is possible and to make even the slightest moves in that direction. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut or stick with your routine.
Challenge your mind

New challenges and activities can strengthen your brain. Learn a new language. Read science fiction. Speak in public. Learn to swim. Be the first to introduce yourself at the event. Engage in conversation with new people. Tackle the fear that has kept you from living your best life. Your mind has a way of rising to the occasion. Challenge it, and it will reward you.
You have to challenge your mind - even making it a little uncomfortable by pushing yourself to learn tasks that may not come naturally. Think of the mind as a muscle that naturally tightens up over time unless it is consciously worked upon. Most things seems impossible until they are done. Give yourself permission to think and act beyong the usual. You will be surprised by what you are capable of achieving.

Alan Henry of Lifehacker explains: “The idea of the comfort zone goes back to a classic experiment in psychology. Back in 1908, psychologists Robert M. Yerkes and John D. Dodson explained that a state of relative comfort created a steady level of performance. In order to maximize performance, however, we need a state of relative anxiety - a space where our stress levels are slightly higher than normal. This space is called “Optimal Anxiety,” and it’s just outside our comfort zone.
Left unchecked, we always default toward a more comfortable path. Your comfortable zone provides a state of mental security. You can understand why it’s so hard to kick your brain out of your comfort zone.
